At Pilsner Urquell, we go a long way to minimise our impact on the environment. We use spent grain, minimise water consumption and invest in eco-friendly solutions to ensure our brewing process is 97% waste-free. And we keep going.

We have made changes to our latest bottle design, and our primary and secondary packaging are more recyclable than ever before. In some markets, where conditions allow, we’ve gone even further, changing our bottles to green and making them reusable.

Small changes make a big difference:

  • No more aluminium foil. We’ve removed all foil from our bottles, saving 45 tonnes of aluminium globally per year – the weight of about 25 cars or over 700 kegs of beer!
  • No more plastic. We’ve got rid of our plastic label, saving 55 tonnes of plastic globally every year – the weight of nine elephants, or over 600,000 glasses of perfectly poured Pilsner Urquell!
  • Recyclable paper. We’ve removed all non-eco-friendly materials and replaced them with recyclable paper labels that are better for the environment.

“The new packaging is a huge step-change for our brand. Sustainability has always been at the heart of our business. Now, it’s at the heart of our bottle design too. We love the evolution – it looks good and is good for the environment!” said Ludek Baumruk, Global Brand Director, Pilsner Urquell.

However, we’ve only changed our packaging, not our beer! So, keep enjoying our 100% original, no compromise recipe that offers a fresh and flavoursome taste.
